Experiences with Foreign groups / scientists
1967 Prof Sten Andersson sent me a set of original data with notes for my question letter on his Ti5O9 paper.
1968 Prof Bruce Hyde came to Tohoku Univ from West Australian Univ , worked together and published an EM paper on “Slightly reduced TiO2”.
1969 I was invited to International Conf on “The chemistry of extended defects in non-metallic solids " organised by Prof LeRoy Eyring and Michael O’Keeffe at Arizona State with a round-trip air ticket. There, I met leading scholars in the field, including Profs John Cowley, Sten Andersson and Mike O'Keeffe.
1980 Prof Ryoji Uyeda (Nagoya Univ) sent me to “Australian EM Society Meeting” and suggested to present my research on “EM study of Au-based incommensurate alloys” by sending a Check to cover all the cost. I had collaborated with Prof Uyeda through his PhD student on critical-voltage-effect. I stayed at John Sanders' home (Melbourne) for a month. He was the world expert on zeolites, and I got acquainted with Alex Moody, a world-famous theoretician on electron scattering.
1981 Prof Watanabe gave a Plenary Lecture at IUCr Conf at Canada on my research “EM study of Au-based incommensurate alloys”. I presented a Poster in more details. Dr David Jefferson, Phys Chem, Cambridge Univ, presented his poster next to me, and we showed big interests each other.
1981 I received an invitation letter from Prof John Thomas for a postdoc in his group. I replied I would be happy and come after obtaining DSc in a few months and sent a list of my publications. Then, Prof Thomas resent me another invitation letter to work with him under the scheme of the Guest Research Fellow of the Royal Society with enough financial support for me to travel and stay with my whole family (wife and three school children) at Cambridge.
1982 Obtain Doctor of Science (April 28th), Start working with John Thomas at Cambridge Univ (the same Inst as J W Menter & J V Sanders worked) from Sept 1982 and Member of The High Table, King’s-College, worked on EM study on zeolite fine structures for 18 months (until 1984 April).
1987 External Examiner for PhD Defence, Turk Univ., Finland,
1987 Faculty Opponent for PhD Defence, Lund Univ., Sweden
1990 External Examiner for PhD Defence, Lund Univ., Sweden
1994 Faculty Opponent for PhD Defence, Lund Univ., Sweden
1995-2001 Selected as one of the 1st PIs, CREST Project orginised by JST on “New Arrayed Clusters in Microporous Materials: Syntheses, Structures and Physical Properties”, through heavy competition.
2001.02 Apply for international recruitment, Prof., Head of Structural Chemistry, Arrhenius Laboratory, Stockholm University.
2002.02 Interview at Stockholm Univ, I was selected unanimously out of five last interviewees (from total 20 applicants) by the International Committee followed with all decisions at different levels in the Univ.
However, one of the candidates challenged the all decisions within the Stockholm Univ successively. Finally, The Higher Education Committee, Authority under Ministry of Education, rejected the appeal. It took almost one year to reach the final decision. All processes including name of applicants, evaluations and decisions of various levels are public information.
2003.04 - 2010.03 - 2016.12 - Head of Structural Chem - Part time Prof (4 months/year) - Emeritus, Stockholm.
